LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in a southern Indiana 2024 shooting is expected to plead guilty later this month.
Joshua Thompson, 25, of New Albany, was charged with murder after 25-year-old Kaitlyn Lee was shot and killed inside a home in the 130 block of Village Drive on Aug. 10, 2024.
According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, a witness told officers she and the victim, Lee, were making a TikTok video in the kitchen of an apartment when they heard someone banging on the window.
Police said Lee asked the person outside, "What are you doing here?" before a blast from the area of the window could be seen in the video. Smoke could then be seen hanging in the room before the video shuts off, according to court documents.
Investigators said Thompson and Lee had a preexisting relationship. Court records also show Thompson was under a no-contact order at the time of the shooting.
Thompson later called 911 and told a dispatcher he "shot the mother of his child." Police also said Thompson admitted to pulling the trigger.
Court records show Thompson originally pleaded not guilty. He is now expected to plead guilty to murder as part of a plea agreement that would sentence him to 45 years in prison.
Thompson’s plea hearing is scheduled for May 28.
