LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The man accused of stripping naked and touching himself in front of people at Cherokee Park was a golf coach for Jefferson County Public Schools.

Louisville Metro Police said 59-year-old Gregory Mack was arrested Friday night after several anonymous tips.

In a social media post last week, LMPD said a man was sometimes naked at Cherokee Park near Scenic Loop and committed "lewd acts" before running away.

Police said this happened in front of children. According to police, he was reportedly seen near Hogan's Fountain, the lower soccer fields, Chauffeur's Rest and the Scenic Loop area.

Online records show Mack was at one point a golf coach at W.E.B. DuBois Academy.

In a letter sent home Monday to golf and soccer families at DuBois, officials said, "The individual in question has been removed from involvement with our programs and will no longer have access to Jefferson County Public Schools facilities or events."

It is unclear how long he coached at the school.

According to court documents, multiple people saw a man masturbating in different areas throughout the park. Court documents state witnesses saw him with his underwear around his ankles while touching himself and watching women at the park.

Multiple witnesses were able to take pictures of him before leaving the park and contacting police.

Mack was charged with first-degree and second-degree indecent exposure. He appeared in arraignment court Saturday morning, where his unsecured bond was set at $2,500.

Mack is expected to appear in court for a pretrial conference on May 29. If he does not appear, he will have to pay the full bond amount.

Dear Golf and Soccer Families,

"We are writing to keep you informed regarding concerns that recently arose in the community involving an adult affiliated with our athletic programs. This morning, the athletic staff and school administration have received multiple questions from students related to the matter. In response, we met directly with student-athletes participating in the golf and soccer programs to provide support, answer questions appropriately, and ensure students felt safe and heard.

We want families to know that the individual in question has been removed from involvement with our programs and will no longer have access to Jefferson County Public Schools facilities or events.

At W.E.B. DuBois Academy, the safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We also understand the importance of transparency and proactive communication with our families during situations that may impact students emotionally or socially.

To support our students moving forward, the following measures are in place:

  • Ongoing access to counselors and support staff for any student needing assistance or someone to speak with;
  • Direct communication channels for students and families to report concerns;
  • Continued collaboration with district leadership to ensure all safety expectations and protocols are upheld.

We recognize that situations like this may generate questions, emotions, and concern among students and families. We encourage you to speak with your child and reach out to the school if additional support is needed. Ms. Montgomery, our Mental Health Practitioner, and Ms. Dee, our Youth Services Center Coordinator, are both available to provide mental health and socio-emotional support.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support as we work together to maintain a safe, supportive, and student-centered environment for all scholars."

Sincerely,

Dr. Monica Hunter-Kirby

Principal
