LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Multiple overnight ramp and lane closures on Interstate 65 South begin Monday, May 4, as part of the Central Corridor project.

The on-ramp to I-65 South from 1st Street near Jacob Street will close on or after Monday, May 4, and reopen by Aug. 1, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The on ramps to I-65 South at 1st and Chestnut streets and 1st Street between Liberty Steet and Muhammad Ali Boulevard will be open until June 1.

In addition, the off-ramp from I-65 South to St. Catherine Street, exit 135, will also close Monday and won't reopen until late this year.

There will also be the following overnight ramp and lane closures this week:

  • Monday, May 4, from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Ramp closure from 1st Street (near the Chestnut Street intersection) to southbound I-65 (milepoint 135.3)
    • Lane closures overnight on southbound I‑65 between St. Catherine Street (Exit 135 | milepoint 135.2) and Arthur Street (Exit 134 | milepoint 134.4)
  • Monday, May 4 through Wednesday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night

This is all part of the work on I-65 that starts June 1 between downtown Louisville and the Watterson Expressway, which will close the five-mile stretch until Saturday, Aug. 1. Crews will be widening ramps to ease congestion during the two-month closure of I-65.

During the I-65 Central Corridor project, three bridges will be replaced —bridges over Kentucky Street/Brook Street, Hill Street/CSK Railroad/Burnett Avenue and Bradley Avenue.
