LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A woman was charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence after allegedly crashing into a building Thursday afternoon and killing one person.

Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Adam Sears said officers responded around 4:53 p.m. to reports of an injury crash in the 700 block of Logan Street between South Shelby and South Campbell streets.

When officers arrived, they found three injured occupants inside the vehicle. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Ayanna Wilbanks, 19, of Louisville.

Dasharay Ben'e, 23, was arrested in connection with the crash. According to court documents, she told detectives she drank one margarita before the crash.

Police said the vehicle was traveling north on Logan Street at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and crashed into a building.

Ben'e was among the two people transported to the hospital. Police said a toxicology report revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.168.

She has been charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, failure of owner to maintain insurance and operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Ben'e made an initial appearance in court Saturday where her bond was set at $10,000. She's expected in court Tuesday, May 26 for a preliminary hearing.
