LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Bullitt County Detention Center employee was fired after releasing an inmate early.

The jail's chief deputy said the jail sergeant was fired Tuesday for failure to follow policies and procedures, leading to the release of inmate Dustin Harris.

The sergeant mistakenly released Harris last month, the chief deputy said. Six days later, jail officials found him and he was taken back into custody.

Harris was behind bars on charges of terroristic threatening, harassing communications and menacing.
