LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man died Monday after a moped crash in east Louisville.
The crash happened around 2:25 p.m. May 8 in the 11300 block of Blankenbaker Parkway near Element Lane, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department. Police said the scooter was heading northbound when the rider somehow lost control. The vehicle left the roadway and hit a concrete median, causing both riders to be thrown off.
Investigators said both men on the moped were wearing a helmet.
Emergency crews took the driver to UofL Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The passenger was also transported to the hospital in critical condition. Three days later, he died, police said.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the passenger on Thursday as 60-year-old David Riggle.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating what led to the collision.
