LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A New Albany man was arrested in Crawford County Wednesday night after allegedly waving a sharp object at officers, Indiana State Police say.

Crawford County officers responded at approximately 10:10 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a man in the Marengo, Indiana area in the roadway, screaming at drivers.

Police say when officers arrived, they attempted to speak to the man — later identified as 39-year-old Mark Durbin — but he became hostile, shouting obscenities and ignoring commands.

Durbin then pulled a "large, sharp object" from a wagon and began waving it toward the officers, police say. Officers drew their guns in response and ordered him to drop the item, but he continued screaming and ran from the area.

According to the release, officers pursued Durbin until he fell to the ground, breaking the sharp object. He attempted to flee again until an officer tased him, placed him in handcuffs and arrested him.

Durbin is charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony; public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

EMS checked him on the scene for potential injuries. He is currently being held on bond at Crawford County Jail.
