LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man faces human trafficking charges, accused of posting ads of a woman on prostitution websites and holding her captive in a home.
According to an arrest citation for 26-year-old Juan Almaguer-Pupo, Louisville Metro Police responded to UofL Hospital May 26 to talk to a woman who reported she was being trafficked by Almaguer-Pupo.
The victim told police Almaguer-Pupo was posting ads of her on prostitution websites to have men come and have sex with her. When she told him she didn't want to "do that kind of work," she alleges he would abuse her or threaten to hurt her.
She told police he wouldn't allow her to leave the home under the threat of violence. She also said he kept her phone away from her so he could post the ads for money, which he would keep after the men left the home.
Police said the victim told them she was able to escape the house and call for help after stopping a passing vehicle.
Investigators were able to use their tools to find the ads Almaguer-Pupo was allegedly posting, as well as screenshots of text messages showing prices for sex acts.
While he was being taken into custody, police said they found the victim's phone on Almaguer-Pupo. He was charged with human trafficking, promoting human trafficking and unlawful imprisonment.
In court Wednesday morning, Almaguer-Pupo pleaded not guilty and a judge set his bond at $100,000. His next court appearance was scheduled for June 4.
