LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An investigation is underway after a woman died while in custody at the Jefferson County Jail in Indiana.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Kimberly Earl passed away Tuesday, May 19.

Indiana State Police and the county coroner's office are investigating the circumstance surrounding her death, which are unknown at this time.

"The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and remains committed to transparency throughout the process while also respecting the integrity of the investigation," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.

Police said no additional details would be released at this time. The coroner's office said toxicology results are pending.

Earl was arrested Monday, May 18, on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement and obstruction of justice.
