LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is in custody after a shooting at a Texas Roadhouse in Okolona sent another man to the hospital Thursday evening, according to Louisville Metro Police.

LMPD said officers responded around 6:11 p.m. to the restaurant at 3322 Old Outer Loop on a report of a shooting.

According to police, officers arrived and found a man who was shot in the shoulder. The man was taken to UofL Hospital with injuries police believe to be non-life-threatening.

LMPD identified the suspect Friday morning as 24-year-old Ronald Winter.

According to court documents, when Winter tried to leave the restaurant without paying, the victim grabbed his arm.

The victim said when Winter tried to reach for his waistband, they tried to tackle him to the ground. That's when the gunshot went off.

Winter fled the scene and was found a few hours later off Highway 44 in Shepherdsville.

Councilwoman Ginny Mulvey-Woolridge said the victim is a manager at the restaurant.

Zelia Vandiver was out to dinner with her church at the restaurant when she recalls hearing what she thought was "a big pan" falling. That's when she said chaos ensued.

"All of a sudden, I heard one of the waitresses — or somebody who works there — say 'get down' really loudly," Zandiver said. "So everybody just got down on the floor."

According to a social media post, Ascend Church was holding a fundraiser at the restaurant during the shooting.

Winter is charged with assault and is set to appear in court June 25.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Texas Roadhouse said the employee who was shot is stable and will be released from the hospital, and that the restaurant would be reopening Friday at 3 p.m.

"We would like to express our gratitude to the LMPD and first responders for their swift response to the incident that occurred at our Okolona location in Louisville on Thursday evening," the spokesperson said.
