LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Police closed all entrances to downtown Corydon on Tuesday afternoon because of rising floodwaters.

According to Harrison County Dispatch just after 2:30 p.m., water was already over State Road 62 east of downtown and was rising elsewhere.

Officials said anyone trying to enter Corydon would be turned around. They asked people to stay away from the water and not drive into the area.

"It's crazy," 10-year-old resident Emma Jones said. "It's just crazy."

This comes after more than eight inches of rain caused flash flooding in Lanesville, Indiana.

Officials said Little Indian Creek, which runs from Lanesville through Harrison County into downtown Corydon, contributed to the flooding.

Elmer Ramos' shop is about 100 yards from the creek, and he said it was just a normal day at his business before water became flooding into the building.

"Within an hour, (the water) was already at our doors," Ramos said. "By the time we were able to kind of put things up and save what we could electronic-wise, the water was up to seven inches."

The Alibi, a downtown bar that was just purchased last summer, was flooded with about an inch of water, according to owner Laurie Huelsman.

Huelsman said getting out of the building was tricky, but she said members of the Corydon community "saved her life."

"They stayed and helped me get some outside furniture in," Huelsman said. "And they took me by my arms and helped me across the street, a flowing creek."

Huelsman also said they put sandbags on some of the exterior doors to protect from the rainfall expected Tuesday night.

As of 4 p.m. most of the water in downtown Corydon had receded.

An official with Harrison County Emergency Management confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the flooding.
