LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A chimney malfunction is to blame for a house fire in east Louisville Friday night.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS along with St. Matthews Fire Department responded to a fire in the 3100 block of Stonebridge Road off Westport Road near Tom Sawyer Park, Salvador Melendez, Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS spokesperson, said.

Melendez said firefighters arrived within five minutes and found a two-story home with fire coming from the roof near the center of the home. Crews were able to knock down the main fire and investigate the cause.

Two people inside the home were able to get out safely and were not injured. The home suffered extensive fire damage, Melendez said.

Louisville Metro Arson determined the fire accidentally caused by a chimney malfunction.
