LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A busy stretch of road in southern Indiana will close for nearly two months so crews can finish a bridge rehabilitation project.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, Klerner Lane will close between Eastridge Drive and Prestwick Square, over Interstate 265, starting Monday, June 1.

Drivers can also expect intermittent overnight rolling slowdowns, lane closures and shoulder closures on I-265 at Klerner Lane.

INDOT said it's part of a $2.8 million project to rehabilitate the overpass over I-265.

Megan Mumphrey works at Talk to the Tail Pet Salon which is near Klerner Lane. She said she isn't looking forward to the possible delays.

"A lot of us use Klerner Lane so we're going to have to figure out alternative routes. It's just going to put everyone behind on getting places on time and everything," said Mumphrey.

Klerner Lane is expected to reopen in late July, depending on weather throughout the course of the project.

Officials remind drivers to slow down and use extra caution when driving in and around work zones.

Summer road construction projects ramp up

The closure comes amid several major interstate projects across southern Indiana and Louisville.

A complete closure of Interstate 65 in Louisville begins June 1 between the Watterson Expressway and downtown Louisville for two months to replace aging bridges along the interstate.
