LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The woman found dead near the Shawnee Park boat ramp Sunday afternoon has been identified by her family as 32-year-old Rachel Hughes.
Hughes' mother says many questions surrounding her daughter's death are unanswered right now.
"I'm just ... It's just ... it's not right," her Hughes' mom, Tammy Bryant, said clutching the jewelry her daughter was wearing when she died. "Nobody deserves what happened. Nobody deserves that."
Just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Louisville Metro Police were called to the Shawnee Park Drive boat ramp. That's where investigators said they found a woman in a wooded area who had been shot multiple times.
Hughes died at the scene. No arrests have been made.
"They told us that she had been shot in the chest, but that's all we knew," Bryant said. "But to hear (she was shot) eight times, nobody deserves that. No human deserves that."
Hughes' mother says the two had been living together off Bashford Manor Lane. She says Hughes took her Lincoln Continental SUV to a nearby business, 247 Laundromat on Bardstown Road, where she was last seen around 4:30 Sunday morning.
Hours later, family members found the SUV near 46th and Market streets, just blocks from Shawnee Park.
"She drove my Lincoln Continental, you know, and she wore jewelry," Bryant said. "I just feel like it had something to do with them targeting her for some reason."
It's not clear what led to the shooting, and police were still working the scene near the boat ramp on Shawnee Park Road Monday afternoon.
