LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — One of the men convicted last week in the fatal shooting of Tyree Smith at a Louisville bus stop in 2021 faces new charges after drugs were found in his jail cell.

Demaurion Moore pleaded not guilty to several drug charges in court Tuesday morning, including promoting contraband, possession of a controlled substance and trafficking in a controlled substance.

According to court documents, Metro Corrections officers searched Moore's cell June 12 while he was in court for the trial in Smith's death. An officer found "two bundles of Suboxone strips wrapped in clear plastic," containing a total of 40 Suboxone strips.

Moore was arraigned on the charges Tuesday morning and a judge set his bond at $2,500 in the case.

Moore and Mekhi Cable were convicted last week on all charges in connection with the September 2021 drive-by shooting that killed 16-year-old Smith. They were both 15 at the time.

In court for sentencing recommendations after his conviction, Moore accepted a deal to serve at least 30 years in prison, with credit for time served, and agreed to not apply for parole, request probation or shock probation.

Moore will be formally sentenced on his conviction by a judge Aug. 27.
