LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man was charged with child abuse, accused of hitting a 5-week-old in the head with a game controller, hospitalizing the infant with serious injuries.
According to court records, Louisville Metro Police arrested Steven Harris, 31, Wednesday and charged him with assault and criminal abuse of a child 12 or under.
Police said they were called by Child Protective Services on Aug. 31 after a 5-week-old infant was brought into Norton Children's Hospital with skull fractures and a brain bleed.
Police spoke to the infant's mother at the hospital, who told them she and Harris got into an argument while she was holding the baby. Harris got upset and threw a game controller at the mother, hitting the baby in the head, she said.
The infant is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and her condition is not known.
Harris is charged with assault and criminal abuse of a child 12 or under. In court Thursday, a judge set his bond at $10,000 cash.
