LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The former University of Kentucky student arrested after the death of her newborn said she fell asleep on top of the baby.
Laken Snelling reportedly told medical staff at UK the baby "whimpered" after it was born and she fell asleep on top of it, LEX 18 reported Friday, citing Lexington Police records.
She said she thought the baby was dead, wrapped it in a towel and a trash bag, and put it in her closet.
In court Friday, investigators said the baby appeared to be full term when it was found, according to LEX 18.
A cause of death has not yet been determined.
Snelling is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
The case now heads to a grand jury to determine if there's enough evidence to continue toward trial.
Snelling has since withdrawn from UK.
