LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Six women were hurt after a shooting early Sunday morning in the Jacobs neighborhood.

According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded around 6 a.m. Sunday to a motorcycle club in the 1700 block of Berry Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found two women who had been shot. LMPD believes their injuries are non-fatal.

Hours after the incident, four additional victims arrived at UofL Hospital for treatment. LMPD originally said two of those women had non-fatal gunshot wounds and the other two had non-gunshot-related injuries.

LMPD said in an update hours later that five women in total were shot and one woman suffered a head injury from the incident.Ā

Victoria Rodriguez was at the club when the shootings happened. It was her first time at the motorcycle club.Ā

"It was very chaotic. It was very scary," Rodriguez said.Ā

A man who was working at the motorcycle club Sunday morning said the shooting had nothing to do with the club.

The owner of the club said the shooting happened in the lot next to the club.Ā

The owner said when people who didn't meet the age limit couldn't get in the club, they threw their own party in the street, right in the lot beside the building.

Those working at the club said they called LMPD Thursday, May 21, warning the club would be packed because it's Memorial Day weekend and that they were throwing a party for the biker club's former president who passed away.Ā

They claimĀ the club owner asked LMPD for increased patrol and asked them to clear the lot if people were lingering outside.Ā

"They came through here they rode through here a couple of times. They didn't do nothing," someone working the club said. "We called them and told them clear. If they not going inside, they need to clear the lot. They just rode through."

LMPD Sgt. Matt Sanders, department spokesperson, said it's not the department's responsibility to clear private lots unless there is illegal activity going on.

In a statement, Sanders said, "At some point the focus has to shift to the shooters themselves and the culture of silence that continues to allow these incidents to happen. There were plenty of people there this morning. Somebody knows exactly who pulled the trigger, and somebody knows exactly why this happened."

Around the same time of the shooting, Shively police responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash at the 3400 block of 7th Street Road. Two women died in that crash.

The scenes are less than 1 mile away from each other. Police said it is unknown whether the shooting and the crash are connected.

Sanders said there were no obvious gunshot wounds on the dead crash victims. However, final determinations will be made following autopsy results.

LMPD and Shively police will continue to coordinate if evidence connects the two incidents.
