LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Indiana State Police have made an arrest in an almost 30-year-old rape case.
Indiana State Police said Sunday in a release a Tennessee man was arrested in connection to a 1996 rape in Scott County, Indiana.
Scott County Sheriff's Department arrested 53-year-old Sammy Wayne Riley, of La Follette, Tennessee, on Saturday, Nov. 1. Riley formally lived in Scott County.
ISP said in 1996, detectives got a report from a woman who said she was raped after leaving the former Austin Lounge in Austin, Indiana, with two men.
The victim provided a name she believed belonged to her assailant, but the DNA was not a match.
However, in June, recent technology helped track the DNA to a close genetic relative of Riley. Police obtained a warrant on Oct. 29 after learning Riley had returned to Scott County for a family matter.
Riley is charged with one felony count of rape and is being held at the Scott County jail.
