LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A New York City bakery featured in several hit TV shows will open a location in Louisville.
Magnolia Bakery will open late this summer on East Market Street in NuLu's Zen 620 development, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
The 1,500-square-foot store will be the bakery's second franchised location in the nation.
Founded in 1996 in NYC, the bakery was featured in shows like "Sex and the City," "Saturday Night Live" and "Spin City." It was also shown in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada."
Magnolia Bakery is known for its red velvet cupcakes and "world famous" banana pudding, according to its website.
Louisville native Alex Nessenthaler is behind the project. LBF reported Nessenthaler became familiar with the famous bakery while working in NYC. It served as her family's go-to spot for coffee and treats such as ice box desserts, carrot cake, key lime pie and blonde brownies.
"We were huge patrons when we were there and to be able to bring it to my hometown feels surreal in so many ways,"Â Nessenthaler said.Â
Construction is expected to cost $225,000 and is already underway. Magnolia Bakery has a dozen U.S. stores, including 10 in New York, one in Los Angeles and one in Chicago.
The Louisville location will be inside New York City-based commercial real estate firm Zyyo's Zen 620 development at 622 E. Market St. and 620 E. Market St., which already houses Sake A Go Go.Â
